What Material is Best? Acrylic - Stainless Steel - Glass

Comparison Between Acrylic, Stainless Steel and Glass Convex Mirrors:

  1. Acrylic - lightweight, shatter resistant, good for general use, economical, easy maintenance
  2. Stainless Steel - unbreakable, easy to clean, vandal-proof, more expensive, good for sterile environments
  3. Glass - heavier and very breakable (DuraVision™ no longer manufactures glass mirrors due to the safety hazard with breakage).

1. Acrylic

  • DuraVision™ manufactures their acrylic convex mirrors using 100% virgin, optical grade, impact and and UV resistant acrylic. This means the mirror will not be distorted, will not go yellow or cloudy like other cheap imported brands.
  • All DuraVision™ acrylic mirrors are manufactured in a 2mm or 3mm thickness, making them impact resistant and less likely to break or bend (unlike the .5mm - 1mm of other brands)
  • Vacuum metalize with a pure aluminum mirror coating and sealed with a scientifically designed mirror backing paint. These advanced mirroring techniques and high quality materials result in a the best quality convex mirrors sold around the world and backed by a 5 Year Warranty.

2. Stainless Steel

  • DuraVision™ stainless steel mirrors are manufactured from electro-polished , mirror quality grade 304 stainless steel.
  • Since stainless steel is vitually unbreakable, these mirrors are ideal for vandal prone areas,  or environments where loose rocks and gravel are a potential hazard (such as mines, quarries, country roads etc.)
  • For sterile environments such as food processing, stainless steel mirors can handle extreme or harsh cleaning regimes (see our Full Stainless Steel Food Processing Mirrors).
  • Stainless steel mirrors are generally more expensive than acrylic or polycarbonate, however they are resistant to impacts, rust and scratching, making them very easy to clean and maintain and backed by a 5 Year Warranty.

3. Glass

  • Glass is heavier and has the potential to shatter on impact making it less safe compared to acrylic of stainless steel.
  • Although glass has the clearest quality reflection, it is more expensive to manufacture and ship.
  • Due to the potential safety hazards associated with glass, DuraVision™ no longer manufactures glass convex mirrors.
